Welcome to the OpenTodo blog

What this blog is for, what you'll find here, and how to follow along.

OpenTodo is a to-do app you run on your own server. Until now, news about it lived in release notes and the odd forum thread, and was gone a week later. This blog is where it goes from now on.

What you’ll find here

Posts come in four kinds:

  • News: announcements and milestones.
  • Releases: what a new version brings and why it works the way it does. The complete list of changes is always on the What’s new pages.
  • Development: how OpenTodo is built, including work that isn’t released yet. Those posts say so clearly at the top.
  • Ownership: essays on why your task list should live somewhere you control. The first two are already here.

What you won’t find here

Promises about dates, invented numbers, or features described as available before they’re in a release. If a post talks about something you can use today, it links to the documentation that shows how.

Follow along

The blog has its own RSS feed. There’s no newsletter and no tracking: add the feed to your reader and new posts will show up there.

If you’d like to try OpenTodo first, the demo runs in your browser with nothing to install.

Your to-do list, on your own server.

Try the demo in your browser. When you like it, install OpenTodo on your server and import your tasks.

OpenTodo is free and open source, with no paid tier. If it helps you, a star on GitHub helps other people find it, and a coffee helps keep it going.
