Invite someone who has no account yet

One link adds a person to a project, creating their account on the way when the server allows it. It works once and expires.

What you need

  • A project to share, and a way to send the link yourself (a message, an email). OpenTodo never sends it for you. Invite with a link

Steps

  1. Open Share on the project and select Create a link… under Invite with a link. Invite with a link
  2. Pick the role they get. Optionally enter their email, so only an account with that address can use the link. Choose how long it stays valid (1 hour to 30 days; 7 days by default). Invite with a link
  3. Select Create link, then Copy link, and send it however you like. The link is shown only once and works once. Invite with a link
  4. When they open it, they see who invited them, the project and the role. New to the server? They select Create an account, choose a name and password, and land in the project. Already have an account? They sign in and select Join project. Invite with a link

Who can bring new people

A link creates a new account only when the server allows it: when the link was created by the server’s owner or an admin, when open sign-up is on, or when the owner switched on Members can invite new people with project links in Settings → Access policies. Otherwise the Share dialog says so under the new link, and it works only for people who already have an account. Who can bring new people

Good to know

  • The dialog lists the links still waiting, with role, email, expiry and who created them; Revoke stops one. Invite with a link
  • To invite someone to the server without any project, the owner or an admin creates an invitation in Settings → Administration → Members. Invite someone new
