An invite link does not work
A link works once and for a limited time, and it may not be allowed to create an account. Here is how to tell which it is.

Check these, in order
- Has it been used or revoked, or has it expired? A link works once, stops at its expiry (1 hour to 30 days), and when whoever created it revokes it or is no longer an admin of the project. Ask for a new one; the Share dialog lists the links still waiting. Invite with a link
- Does the person already have an account? Then the link’s page asks them to Sign in to join, not to create an account. If they are already a member of the project, the page says so. Invite with a link
- Was the link tied to an email address? Only an account with that address can use it. Invite with a link
- Is the link allowed to create an account? A project link creates new accounts only when it was made by the server’s owner or an admin, when open sign-up is on, or when the owner switched on Members can invite new people with project links. Otherwise the page tells the person to get an account first. Who can bring new people
The fix
- If you are a member and your links cannot create accounts, ask whoever runs the server to invite the person from Settings → Administration → Members, or to switch on the option above. Once they have joined, share the project with them by email. Invite someone new
