Set up in ten minutes
On this page
1. Choose how you work#
In Settings → You → How you work (or in the start guide on your first visit):
- Lists only: OpenTodo as a plain task app, no method words.
- Companion: your sidebar stays as it is; screens name the move they serve and link to the method.
- Open Loops first: the Loop home opens first, the sidebar shows Loop home, Inbox, Today, Next, Waiting and Review, and the app offers a Daily check each day.
The choice syncs to all your devices and changes no task. You can switch any time. Choosing Open Loops first also offers to open on the Loop home on this device.
2. Create your contexts#
When you choose Companion or Open Loops first and have no context yet, the app offers @home, @computer, @calls and @errands. Accept, or make your own: any label starting with @ is a context.
3. Empty your head#
Press q and catch everything on your mind, one line each, for five minutes. Do not sort anything yet.
4. Clarify#
Press g p and decide each item: do it, schedule it, move it to a project, delegate it, park it in Someday or trash it. See Clarify.
5. Walk your projects#
Open the weekly review (g r), go to Projects, and give each project a next step with q. From now on, work from Next and come back to the review once a week.
