Do

Work from your next actions, by context, one step at a time. Choosing what to do is easy when every option is small, concrete and possible right now.

The Next view#

The Next view: the next action of four projects under Anywhere, each with its date and project.

Next (g Shift+N) shows the next action of every project: its first task, in the project's order, that you can do now. A task is left out while it waits for another open task, is assigned to someone else, is deferred to a later start date or parked in Someday. Complete one with c and the project's following step takes its place.

Contexts#

A context is any label whose name starts with @: @home, @computer, @calls, @errands. Next groups its tasks by context, so at the computer you look at @computer and in town at @errands. Tasks without one are under Anywhere. Add a context in triage with l, or in a list with Shift+L.

Today and focus#

Due dates still matter: Today shows what must happen today. The Daily check lets you pick up to three tasks as today's focus, shown on the Loop home.

One next step#

A project without a next action is stuck. The weekly review's project walk finds them and asks for the next step. See Review.
