Sidebar counts and order

Both choices are in Settings → Appearance → Sidebar. They follow your account to every device, also offline.
Counts on every list#
Sidebar counts decides which rows show a number:
- Inbox and Today (the default): numbers only on Inbox, Today and folded groups. A project shows its count while you point at it, or always on a touch screen.
- Every list: every project, label and saved view shows its number of open tasks, and so do their favourites. A list with nothing open shows no number, and a board none.
With a mouse, pointing at a row puts its ⋯ menu button where the number was, so the row never grows. On a touch screen both stay.
A folded project counts its sub-projects too; unfolded, each shows its own. A project counts its open tasks except deferred and Someday ones, a label the open tasks that carry it, and a view its open matches. The numbers are counted on your device from what it holds, so they are right offline and follow every sync.
Order the main destinations#
Sidebar destinations lists Inbox, Today, Upcoming and Calendar, then every destination of the More group, in the order the sidebar shows them. To move one:
- drag the row by its handle;
- choose Move up or Move down in its ⋯ menu;
- or press Alt+↑ / ↓ on its handle.
Switch a More destination on to show it next to Inbox and Today; it takes its place in the list.
On a phone the tab bar shows Inbox, Today and Upcoming in this same order, with Search last. The drawer lists the other destinations in that order and does not repeat the three. With nothing reordered, the bar is Inbox, Today, Upcoming, Search. Under the full Open Loops method the sidebar follows the method, so the list waits, kept, until you choose another mode; the phone bar still uses the saved order. When two devices change the order offline, the one written last wins, whole.
